Tip of the Week: How to Get a Closer Look via the Zoom Function in Your Browser

Have you been struggling to read small text or see details on a webpage or in an application? The solution is simple: zoom in! While basic, many people aren't aware of the powerful, built-in zooming functions available. Today, we've compiled helpful tricks to improve your viewing experience, including a powerful tool we bet you haven't tried.

Quick Zooming Methods

These keyboard shortcuts work in most modern web browsers and many desktop applications:

Keyboard and Mouse Combo

This is perhaps the fastest way to adjust your view:

  • Zoom in - Hold down the Ctrl key and scroll up with your mouse wheel.
  • Zoom out - Hold down the Ctrl key and scroll down with your mouse wheel.

Keyboard-Only Zooming

If you prefer using only your keyboard, or if your mouse is unavailable, use the plus and minus keys:

  • Zoom in - Press Ctrl + + (plus key).
  • Zoom out - Press Ctrl + - (minus key).

(Tip: These keys are typically found on the numeric pad on the right side of your keyboard.)

Reset to Default View

Are you finished zooming? You can instantly return to the standard, 100% zoom level:

  • Reset - Press Ctrl + 0 (zero key).

The Secret Weapon: Windows Magnifier

For situations where you need to zoom in on specific parts of your screen—not just the content in a single browser window—the Windows Magnifier is an indispensable accessibility tool.

This function allows you to enlarge sections of your entire desktop, making it easier to read difficult text or observe fine details in images, no matter where they are on your screen.

How to Activate the Windows Magnifier:

Keyboard Shortcut: The quickest way is to press the Windows Key + + (plus key). This will both activate the Magnifier window and zoom your screen in.

Control Panel - You can also find it manually in the Control Panel under the Ease of Access Center.

Adjust view - Once active, continue using the Windows Key + + to zoom in further, or the Windows Key + - (minus key) to zoom out.

We hope these tips help you get a clearer view and put less strain on your eyes.
